• Server Upgrade and Data Migration

March 6, 2023 by Reuben Sant
  • Dear Customer,

We are in the process of upgrading your shared hosting server. This hardware upgrade allows us to serve you better by enabling us to run the latest versions of the Operating System and Web Hosting Software.

The upgrade process requires us to transfer your shared hosting account from the existing server to a new server ("migration").

In order to achieve this, we need your help to coordinate this migration.

The migration of your account shall start on Thursday, 9th March 2023 at 17:00 and shall be an automated process. Your data shall be queued for migration and the actual process shall take place at any time between the evening of Thursday, 9th March and the early hours of Friday 10th March. During this time window, your service shall remain accessible. However, for the purpose of avoiding data inconsistencies during the transfer, we kindly ask you to avoid writing (inputting/uploading) any important information during this time window. This is because your data may be in the process of being transferred and you may be unknowingly writing data to the old server.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, this process shall finish on the morning of Friday 10th March. At that point in time, we shall start serving your data from the new server whilst decommissioning the old server. If any complications arise during the transfer process we shall address them immediately and postpone switching off the old server so that your data remains accessible until the new server comes online.

If you purchased your domain from us and we are currently managing your domain, you do not need to take any action about the following - it shall be performed automatically. The following only applies if you manage your own DNS records. You may have one or more A records pointing to 94.75.244.133. After the migration, you would need to change these A records to point to the new main server IP at 5.79.72.87. You may wish to ensure that a low TTL is set on the existing DNS records to avoid a long DNS propagation when changing the A record. You may also wish to test (by means of a hosts file) if your data has already been migrated to the new server at 5.79.72.87 before committing the DNS change.

Whilst thanking you in advance for your co-operation, please contact us if you require any clarifications.
